Says Elin: ‘Mastaun was the first peak I climbed when I was seven years old, the climb is steep but the view is wonderful. There is white moss that doesn't grow everywhere and the cranberries taste wonderful. In addition, it is the small local mountain from which you can always see our swimming pool'.
The hike to the summit starts right outside our front door. Immediately a pleasant walk in a straight line, after the waterfall the path starts to get a little steeper. An idyllic path leads through a dense larch forest to the Lafetzalm (2,015 m). After passing the alpine hut, you climb up through the forest until you reach the tree line and finally the Mastaunpichele (2,285 m). Enjoy the view, put your feet up and sign the summit register: it is a must!
The descent is via a steep path, but this does not prevent us from stopping briefly to admire the many alpine flowers along the way and the surrounding nature. Once in the valley, it takes about 10 minutes on foot to reach the Mastaun hut (1,810 m), which invites you to stop for a bite to eat. You descend via a forest road to the Mastaun farmstead, from where a path leads through the forest to the Tonzhaus.
